Assimilative Capacity

Assimilative capacity refers to the ability of a body of water accommodate alterations to water quality without significant impacts upon the environment; aquatic life or humans who consume or use the water for amenity purposes.

Assimilative capacity assessments are required for planning permission applications including a discharge to waters, application for an EPA licence including a discharge to water, applications to Local Authorities for a Section 4 discharge to waters Trade Effluent Licence, or alterations to an existing discharge to water.
